A Better Medium Partner Dashboard: Fractions

I was irritated by how little Medium provides information about my earnings and stats. So, I tried to make my own dashboard.

Fractions — A better Medium Partner Dashboard
Cover designed by Can Durmus

TL;DR: Here is the extension for Chrome, Edge, Opera, and Brave; here is the Firefox version.

A few weeks ago, while I was wandering around my stats and earnings on Medium, I noticed that Medium gives almost no useful information that I actually want to learn. I want to learn what I earned yesterday, or what is my net balance without taxes. But no, all I get is monthly total and individual story earnings. In this dashboard, I cannot understand which story is rising or which one is fading out.

So, here I am. I took this as a challenge and created a Chrome extension that is well designed and full of useful stats and data.

Meet Fractions

When I first started to build this extension, I aimed to provide net earnings because what I have in my bank account is always different than what Partner Dashboard shows. However, on the road, I noticed I can provide much more than that and added more and more features. Here are the features of Fractions in a nutshell.

  • Instant Total Member Reading Time
  • Daily Total Earnings
  • Realtime Currency Conversion
  • Monthly Total Earnings and Earning Estimation
  • Lifetime Earnings and Taxes
  • A Level System Consisting of 15 Levels
  • Net Balance of Every Item On The Screen
  • Daily Average Earnings

These are the main features of the extension but there are many more. I put the features that I need the most because initially, this project was just for me. However, when I liked the way the extension looked and its capabilities, I decided to publish it for anyone who needs it.

Fractions is more sophisticated and useful than the default Medium Partner Dashboard.

I come up with the name Fractions because I already have a tech & programming publication with the exact same name. However, naming it Fractions is because this extension shows you your stats and earnings with every little fraction of them.

What Is The Future?

At the moment, this extension is still in the first version of it and lacks some of the features I have in mind. However, as the days go by, I will implement more and more features to make it more relevant and up-to-date. Right now, I am planning to implement

  • A better estimation algorithm,
  • A button directly going to the stats page,
  • Faster loading times,
  • A dark mode UI.

So, in the next generations, the app will become more stable and feature-rich. These features are what come to my mind but I am totally open to your ideas, as well. You can leave a response if you have any other brilliant ideas, under the cover.

Conclusion

I think this extension will help many writers to analyze their data and write accordingly because the information it provides is not easy to find on default Medium Dashboards. If I didn’t think so, I wouldn’t even publish it. However, the words are limited and cannot tell everything about it. So, go ahead, give it a try and make sure you provide feedback on it, I really appreciate that.

By the way, this is an open-source project. You can find the repository here. Don’t forget to star it, that motivates me a lot.

A special thanks to the ones who write a story about it and help Fractions reach many others. Don’t forget to read their stories, too.
